Beetroot recipes are always my favorite. Today I am going to prepare a delicious spicy Beetroot Pickle for which the taste will stay on your tongue even after your meal. My mom always says, don't cook for yourself, you have to make the people around you happy with your dishes. so I think its the best way to express our love to dear ones. I would love to share my recipes here with you hoping that it will help you to explore more in the world of cooking. I am planning to share some different recipes here. So I think Beetroot Pickle is the best choice for me to start with.

Beetroot has amazing health benefits and has an important place in a healthy diet.  Beetroot is a sweet root vegetable that is full of important vitamins and minerals. Studies have shown that health benefits of Beetroot include :

Ingredients For Beetroot Pickle

  • Beetroot - 2 nos
  • Tamarind - a small pellet (put in water)
  • Green chili - 2 nos
  • Curry leaves
  • Ginger - a small piece
  • Garlic clove - 7 nos
  • Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tbsp 
  • Mustard - 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Distilled White Vinegar - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Salt - required

Preparation For Beetroot Pickle

Wash beetroot cleanly to avoid any soil as its a root vegetable. Peel it and then cut it into small pieces as we normally do for pickles. You can get it cooked half by steaming it for sometime before the actual preparation. Pour some oil in a pan and heat it with the mustard.
  When mustard breaks, add green chilies, curry leaves, ginger, and garlic. When it becomes a brown color, add turmeric powder, chili powder, green pepper powder, and fenugreek powder to it and stir until the raw smell changes. Now let's add sour water to it. Add salt and boil it. After boiling, add the half-cooked beetroot, stir it and pour some white vinegar to it. now turn off the flame and set aside to cool.


Tips For Beetroot Pickle

Wash jars and lids in hot water and dry it. To ensure that Beetroot Pickle preserved properly you need to ensure that the acidity of the vinegar you are using is at least 5% acidity or higher. Store in the refrigerator for many months.

Does beetroot have side effects?

Beetroot has amazing health benefits but sometimes make urine or stools pink or red. Also, beetroot might cause low calcium levels and kidney damage. This hasn't been shown in people.

Method For Beetroot Pickle

1. Clean and use a peeler to peel the skin of  beetroot

2. Cut the beetroot into  equal-sized pieces

3. Steam the beetroot for 5 minutes

4. Heat oil add mustard seeds

5. Add chopped green chili, curry leaves, garlic, and ginger to the oil and fry until the color becomes brown

6. Add turmeric powder, chili powder, fenugreek and asafoetida to it and stir until the raw smell changes.

7. Pour tamarind juice and boil it.

8. Add salt to taste and stir well

9. Add steamed beetroot and mix well

10. Pour vinegar and stir well
