South Indians always like to have vada as their morning or evening snack. There are a variety of vadas available in the market. But do you know, you can make vada with leftover rice. It’s really healthy and tasty and this vada makes your evening joyful with your loved ones when they are back to home after work or school. This vada absorbs only less oil, and its taste is great. This vada will be your favorite, especially if you want to eat snacks that are not so oily. My child likes the taste of rice vada very much. one day I tried this recipe for some of my foreign friends. they never had this type of vada before and surprisingly they all noted down this recipe before they left my home as they want to try it out only because of its taste. So here I am sharing with you the secret of simple and easy rice vada. Let’s start to cook...
Ingredients for leftover rice vada
Cooked rice - 2 cup
Rice flour - 4 tbsp
Chopped Onion - 1 no
Chopped Green chilly - 2 nos
Ginger - 1 small piece(chopped)
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves(chopped)
Salt as required
Preparation for leftover rice vada
Take the leftover rice in a bowl and mash it well using your hands or grind it for a second in a mixer grinder. Then add rice flour, chopped onion, chopped ginger, curry leaves, pepper powder, and salt, mix everything well. Heat oil in a wok pan for deep frying. Take a small ball sized dough and use your palm to make it the shape of vada and use your finger to make a small hole in the center and put that into the heated oil. Fry the rice vada on medium flame until they are golden brown.
Method for leftover rice vada
1. Grind the boiled rice without adding water. It should have a coarse and not paste-like consistency.
2. Add the rice flour, ginger, green chilies, onions, pepper, and salt as required and mix well.
3. Heat oil in a deep pan
4. Rub water on your palms and scoop out small balls of dough. Press the dough gently into the shape of vada with a hole in the middle.
5. Fry the vada, a few at a time, until each side turns golden in color and crispy
6. Drain well on kitchen paper and serve hot
